英語強化部門 ESL Program
The ESL department at FLIS consists of full immersion, sheltered immersion and High-school preparation. Starting in first grade, students are taught in a full immersion environment by foreign teachers who have a bilingual teacher present in the room. Students are expected to learn English and be able to speak English fluently along with their English-speaking counterparts by third grade. Starting in third grade, students who are not fluent receive pull-out classes to help them learn the basics and help them function in an all-English classroom environment. Students who are not fluent after 8th grade enter into the High School Preparation (HSP) classes, which teach reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as the grammar and vocabulary that are necessary for high school. What makes the HSP program different is the focus on academic language. There are three levels of HSP, and students are expected to join the mainstream after completing these three levels. Our goal in the ELL program is to make students fluent enough to join main-stream classes and provide extra support afterward so our students find success in school and in the English-speaking world.
英語學習者項目（ELL program, English Language Learners program）的目的是，讓學生能夠流利使用英語，加入主流班級，并持續為學生提供額外幫助，使他們在學校及英語世界都能取得成功。
